REVEALED: Major buildings and land that East Ayrshire Council have bought and sold this year

3 min read

The major buildings and chunks of land sold and purchased by East Ayrshire Council in Kilmarnock over the last year have been revealed.

Council bosses flogged a building block to pie giant Brownings the Bakers for £270,000 at the Bonnyton Industrial Estate.

Another transaction saw council chiefs sell 22 acres at Hill Street and Balmoral Road in the town to Halo Kilmarnock Ltd for £1.

The plot was previously transferred to the council for that nominal amount.

Council chiefs splashed out £100,000 on an office building and land at 30 and 30A Grange Street in Kilmarnock. The property is considered to be in poor condition.

A number of ex-council properties were bought back. Three fire-damaged flats were purchased in Orchard Street for a £1 each for demolition.

The local authority also spent £265,000 buying five acres at the Rowallan Business Park to make room for a new catering unit to deliver nursery childrens’ meals.

Building work on the £2 million super kitchen kicked off in January but suddenly stopped when company PMC Construction ended up in liquidation. Another firm, Muir Construction, has now been hired to finish the job.

The transactions were contained in a report presented to councillors at the governance and scrutiny committee on Thursday.

The council spent about £1.7m buying property and ground and sold off buildings and land totalling about £600,000.
